Saving fuel costs with the Fronius PV-Genset solution

ISGEC, a leading manufacturer of titanium and bayonet heat exchangers in India, recognizes the importance of environmental sustainability. The company can’t always count on a reliable power grid and it also runs late shifts and night shifts when no solar energy can be generated for self-consumption. This meant their photovoltaic system needed to be combined with two diesel generators, creating a PV-Genset.  

The innovative Fronius PV-Genset system ensures a consistent power supply even in remote locations and in case of power outages. The solar energy significantly lightens the workload for the diesel generators during the day and saves the company fuel costs, resulting in a very short amortisation period for the PV system.  

To ensure the success of its solar energy initiative, ISGEC turned to Fronius for planning support. The Indian enterprise partnered with local EPC company Sunphotonics Private Limited, which installed and commissioned a 420 kWp rooftop PV system with 12 Fronius Eco 27kW SnapINverters.  

A reliable team: a synchronizing PV system with diesel generators

The PV system had to be synchronised with the company’s two existing diesel generators in order to maximize its output and reduce fuel consumption. Given the complexity of the load wiring and the use of two diesel generators (625KVA & 125KVA) for different load patterns, ISGEC required a customized solution. To address this challenge, they turned to Fronius as a renowned provider of innovative solar energy solutions.  

Fronius successfully collaborated with Sunphotonics Private Limited to develop the best possible solution for ISGEC. The combined expertise of the two companies was needed to guarantee efficient utilization of the PV system alongside the diesel generators, while also prioritizing the equipment’s safety.  

Thanks to the PV-Genset solution, ISGEC has been able to significantly reduce its diesel consumption by using solar energy, in line with the company’s aim to help protect the environment. ISGEC is pleased with the project’s results so far, which has allowed them to shrink their carbon footprint as well as their energy costs. The Indian company wants to provide a good example for other enterprises and motivate them to invest in sustainable solar energy to create a better future.
